Women’s Soccer Falls in Final Home Game to LIU Post

PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) women's soccer team (7-8-1) dropped its final home game of the 2018 regular season to the LIU Post Pioneers (11-2-3) by a final of 6-0 on Monday afternoon from Ravenhill Field.

The Pioneers scored three goals in each half to walk away with the nonconference win. LIU Post scored in the 5th, 36th and 44th minutes before tacking on second-half goals in the 60th, 74th and 83rd minutes.

Jefferson managed eight shots in the contest including five in the second half. Seven of the Rams' eight shots were on target.

Two of the best scoring opportunities for Jefferson came in the 71st and 81st minutes. On a Jefferson corner in the 71st minute, freshman Haleigh Whitcraft took a close-range shot but the LIU Post goalkeeper made the stop. Ten minutes later, freshman Gabrielle Marra took a free kick from 30 yards out and placed it perfectly to the far post's upper 90 as the rival keeper made a jumping save to thwart the scoring effort.

Senior goalkeeper Erin Tinneny (L, 3-8-1) made four stops on the day in goal for Jefferson as she faced 19 shots.

With the exception of Tessa Nykanen, seniors Jada Fields, Morgan Foster, Brooke Haden, Talia Marano, Katie Neveil and Tinneny all played in their final home game at Ravenhill Field.

Jefferson Women's Soccer concludes its regular season on the road at Shippensburg this Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 4 p.m. before playing on the road in the first round of the CACC Tournament next Monday, Oct. 29.
