PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) women's soccer team (0-2) dropped its home opener to Queens (N.Y.) (2-2), 1-0 on Saturday.
The Rams controlled play throughout the first half, outshooting the Knights by a 12-5 margin. However, the Queens goalkeeper was up to the task, turning away six shots and keeping Jefferson off of the scoreboard.
The Knights converted a cross opportunity in the 24th minute and took a 1-0 lead. In the second half, Queens pressured the Rams to the tune of seven shots but Jefferson was able to stay within one. The Rams were able to get off six shots of their own but just two were on target. Jefferson also had three corner kicks in the period but the Knights were able to hold on for the victory.
- Junior Danielle Samson stopped five shots in 60 minutes of action and freshman Allie Bone made one save in the final 30 minutes.
- Jefferson held the advantage in shots (18-12) and corner kicks (7-5).
Jefferson gets right back at it on Sunday, September 15 when the Rams face Millersville at 12 p.m.
