PHILADELPHIA – In a battle for the top seed in the CACC Tournament, the Thomas Jefferson University women's soccer team (12-5, 11-1 CACC) routed Georgian Court (12-5-1, 9-2-1 CACC), 4-0 to end the regular season on Wednesday.
The Rams are the number one seed in the conference playoffs and will host eighth-seeded Dominican (N.Y.) in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, November 12 at 2 p.m.
The Rams scored two early goals to put the pressure on the Lions. A corner kick by senior Dena Noiseux deflected off a defender and went right to senior Erin Sullivan, who buried it for a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute. Just three minutes later, Jefferson had possession in the offensive end. Senior MaryKate Ulmer passed back to Sullivan who found sophomore Ava Albergo in the left side of the box. Albergo shot just inside the right post for a two-goal advantage.
In the second, Albergo got to a loose ball just outside the box and passed over to Noiseux. The senior also booted the ball just inside the right post to put the Rams ahead 3-0 in the 55th minute. Junior Casey Sheehan finished the scoring in the 86th minute as she found the ball out of a scramble in the box and blasted it into the upper left corner.
The Rams had a 19-8 advantage in shots and recorded 13 corner kicks. Graduate student Erin Tinneny stopped three shots for her fifth shutout of the season.
