Women's tennis takes out Holy Family 7-2

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's tennis team avenged a 7-2 loss to Holy Family in the season opener by picking up a big 7-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) over the Tigers Thursday afternoon on the Abraham Salaman Tennis Courts.

Philadelphia—a winner in three of its last four matches, including back-to-back wins for the first time this season—improves to 5-5 overall and moves into the fifth place in the conference with a 2-3 record with two conference matches remaining. The top five teams will qualify for the CACC Tournament.

The Rams got off to a strong start, sweeping all three doubles matches.

Philadelphia's No. 3 tandem of Katelyn High (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and Emily Zygmunt (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) got things started for the Rams with an 8-4 victory over Latifah Hinawy and Meghan Moyer to record its team-best seventh win of the year.

Jala Hamada (Giza, Egypt/Dar El-Tarbia, IGCSE) and Linde Zwaan (Apeldoorn, Netherlands/Gymnasium Apeldoorn) picked up win number six, defeating Anastasiya Kolodiy and Sophie Beck in the No. 1 flight 8-2.

Usha Baublitz (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) and Mariana Sampaio (Brusque, Brazil/Colegio Consul Carlos Renaux) completed the sweep with an 8-6 win, the duo's fourth of 2016, against Emerald Adams and Christina Little at No. 2.

Baublitz earned Philadelphia's fourth point with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Adams in the No. 3 singles match. The win is Baublitz's third of the year. Zwaan clinched the match win for the Rams as she picked up a hard-fought 7-5, 7-5 victory—her team-leading seventh—at No. 2 against Beck.

Sampaio notched her sixth victory of the season with a 6-1, 6-4 win in the No. 5 match against Hinawy. High completed the match by defeating Moyer 8-2 at No. 6 to earn win number six.
