Women's tennis falls to Millersville 8-1

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Philadelphia University women's tennis was defeated by Millersville University, 8-1, in a non-conference match Monday afternoon on the McComsey Tennis Courts.

Mariana Sampaio (Brusque, Brazil/Colegio Consul Carlos Renaux) earned Philadelphia's (7-11) only victory of the afternoon in come-from-behind fashion. Sampaio dropped the opening set of her No. 3 singles match against Kimberly Theophile 6-1. She regrouped in set two and cruised to a 6-1 win to even the score at one set each. Sampaio completed the comeback to earn her eighth victory of the year by winning the tiebreak 10-7.

The win was her second at No. 3 singles.

Katelyn High (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) nearly pulled out a second win for the Rams at No 4 singles but was edged out by Haley Nauman 8-6.

Philadelphia closes out the 2016-17 season with a trip to Kutztown for a non-conference match on Monday, April 17 at 2 p.m.
