Women’s track finishes third in CACC Championship

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Philadelphia University women's track team concluded its 2015 season with a third-place finish in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship hosted by Georgian Court University on Sunday.

Philadelphia racked up 101 points in the eight-team competition is finish in the third spot for the second straight season. Georgian Court won its second straight conference championship, earning 298 points. Caldwell was second with 165 points.

Taylor Falvey (York, Pa./York Catholic) capped off a tremendous four-year career with victories in the 5,000-meter run and 10,000-meter run.

The 10,000 came down to fractions of a second as Falvey—who was running the event for the first time in her collegiate career—beat teammate Alyssa Litty (Martlon, N.J./Cherokee) to the finish line by 0.39 seconds to earn the victory and 10 points for the Rams. Falvey's winning time was 45 minutes, 04.37 seconds and Litty posted a time of 45:04.76. In the 5,000, Falvey successfully repeated as conference champion after running the race in 19:57.82, just over 13 seconds ahead of Emilie Barton (Sterling, Ill./Newman Central Catholic), who completed the event in 20:11.39.

Barton and Kaitlyn Beckham (Gettysburg, Pa./Fairfield Area) gave Philadelphia the top-4 spots in the 10,000 with finishes of third and fourth, respectively. Barton earned the bronze with a time of 45:05.01, while Beckham posted a time of 47:53.91.

Litty crossed the finish line in 20:13.73 to take third in the 5,000 and give the Rams the sweep of the podium.

The trio of Jessica Thies (Reading, Pa./Schuylkill Valley), Victoria Frisbie (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn), and Erin Raup (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) helped the Philadelphia cause by scoring points in the 800-meter run and the 1,500-meter run.

Thies posted personal best times in the 1,500 and 800 to earn finishes of third and fourth, respectively. Her time in the 1,500 was 5:04.62 and her 800 time was 2:27.44. Frisbie also set personal bests in both events as she came in seventh in the 800 with a mark of 2:35.33 and fourth in the 1,500 with a time of 5:06.75. Raup added a pair of sixth-place finishes after completing the 800 in 2.33.08 and the 1,500 in 5:12.04, a personal best.

Courtney Lafferty (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) was a point scorer in two events for the Rams. She was the runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 13:02.68. In the 400-meter high hurdles, Lafferty set a personal best time of 1:20.06 to finish fourth.

The 4x400 team of Chelsey Love (Crooksville, Ohio/Crooksville), Thies, Raup, and Maddie Conway (Glen Mills, Pa./Penncrest) brought home a fourth-place finish after completing the relay in 4:35.27. Love, Megan Reilly, Conway, and Lafferty ran the 4x100 relay in a time of 1:00.77 to score a sixth-place finish.

Love posted a personal best distance of 15' 3.25" (4.65 meters) in the long jump to come in fifth.
