Women’s volleyball rolls to 3-0 sweep at Felician

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Philadelphia University women's volleyball team began a stretch of three straight road matches with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-8) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory at Felician on Saturday in Job Gymnasium.

The Rams (16-4, 9-1 CACC)—winners of four in a row—had a tremendous day offensively, committing a season-low eight attack errors and setting season-highs in attack percentage (.372) and service aces (16).

Courtney Wensel (Bechtelsville, Pa./Berks Catholic) recorded a double-double for the ninth straight match, 16th this season, as she had a match-high 10 kills and 10 digs. Amber Johnson contributed nine kills, while Corinne Justus (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) added eight kills. Johnson and Justus both had an attack percentage of .467.

Alexandra Harrington (St. Leonard, Md./Huntingtown) tallied a match-best 34 assists. Alexis Leddy (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) was the defensive leader with 11 digs, a match high.

Philadelphia had a tremendous first set as the Rams recorded 17 kills and a .500 attack percentage. Despite the strong statistics, Philadelphia was unable to establish its dominance in the set until it went on a late 8-2 run to open up a 22-13 lead. The Rams recorded five kills and two aces in the surge. Philadelphia's first double-digit lead came when Wensel ended the set with her sixth kill to cap a run of three straight points.

The Rams quickly broke away from the Golden Falcons to start set two, scoring 10 of the first 14 points—led by two kills from Justus. After Philadelphia widen the gap two nine, Felician took advantage of two Charlotte Greek aces and two Ram attack errors to close the gap to 15-11. With the Philadelphia lead sitting at 18-14, a Lauren Laucella and Justus block started a run of seven straight points to give the Rams the set.

In the final set, Philadelphia had nine kills and five service aces, and was helped out by eight Felician errors. Johnson led the Rams with four kills. After allowing the first point in the set, Philadelphia would go on a 23-5 run to go ahead by 17, a match-high.

Carmen Shaw had eight kills and four digs to lead Felician (0-20, 0-11 CACC).

The Rams head to East Stroudsburg for a non-conference match on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m.
