NEWARK, Del. – The No. 1-CACC South seeded Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) volleyball team defeated the No. 3-CACC South seeded Georgian Court Lions in four sets, 19-25, 25-11, 25-21, 27-27, on Saturday afternoon to advance to the Sunday CACC Championship match.
The win came as the 15th-straight victory for the Rams.
Sunday's match starts at noon from the Wilmington University Athletics Complex in Newark, Del. Live stats and a free live video stream will be available for the conference championship.
It marks the second-straight year that Jefferson will be playing for the CACC Championship after winning it all for the first time back in 2016.
Senior Corinne Justus hit a team-best .367 in the victory to go along with 15 kills.
Junior setter Alexandra Harrington had her ninth match of the year with at least 40 assists, finishing with 44.
Freshman Caitlin Crespo turned in a team-high 24 digs on the afternoon, her sixth time with 20+ in 2017.
Jefferson dropped the first set to the Lions by a 25-19 final. It came as the team's first set in over a month.
The Rams rebounded in the second for a strong 25-11 win.
The Rams and Lions kept it close in the third. The set was tied at 7-7, 8-8 and 9-9 before Jefferson scored the next three for a 12-9 lead. GCU got within two at 16-14 but Jefferson was able to pull away for the 25-21 win, taking a 2-1 match lead.
The Lions jumped out to an 11-1 advantage in the fourth, setting the match up for what looked to be a fifth set. But Jefferson clawed back, slowly chipping away at the deficit.
The Rams trailed 11-5 and then 17-13 and 19-16. Slowly the GCU lead started to disappear before Jefferson tied it up at 24-24.
Georgian Court's Peggy Rosario recorded a kill to put the Lions up 25-24 but the Rams closed it out with two kills by Wensel and another by Dontell, 27-25.
Jefferson faces No. 1-CACC North seeded Caldwell in the CACC Championship on Sunday, Nov. 19.
