PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) volleyball team (1-4) fell in a nonconference matchup to the Millersville Marauders in the Rams' home opener at the Gallagher Center on Wednesday evening, 25-20, 25-20, 25-15.
-Senior Courtney Wensel notched 13 kills and 10 digs for a double-double.
-Sophomore Logan Dontell and sophomore Abigail Kress each had six kills on the evening. Kress owned a team-best .250 hitting percentage.
-Junior Alexis Leddy notched a team-best 19 digs while senior Alexandra Harrington and sophomore Meghan Patterson each had 11.
-Harrington also had 24 assists.
Jefferson jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead in the first set before Millersville tightened it up at 5-4 in favor of Jefferson. With the Rams still on top at 8-6, Millersville put together a five-point run to take an 11-8 advantage before taking the set, 25-20.
Similarly to the first set, Jefferson hung tight with Millersville towards the midst of the second set. Always a point or two apart, Jefferson owned a 16-14 lead midway through. Millersville then took the next four of five points to grab an 18-17 edge. Jefferson tied it back up before Millersville scored the final seven of nine points to take a 2-0 match lead.
The Rams held a 6-5 edge in the third before a 12-point run gave the Marauders a 17-6 advantage before they took the set, 25-15.
Jefferson Volleyball returns to action tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 6 at home against USciences. Play begins at 6 p.m. from the Gallagher Center.
