Volleyball Splits Saturday Doubleheader at Wildcat Invitational; Kress Named All-Tournament

NEWARK, Del. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) volleyball team (5-5) split its Saturday doubleheader at the 2018 Wildcat Regional Invitational, hosted by Wilmington University in Newark, Del. from the WU Athletics Complex. The Rams fell to American International in the first match before sweeping Merrimack in the second.

For her play in the tournament, sophomore Abigail Kress was named to the All-Tournament Team.

AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL DEF. JEFFERSON, 25-17, 25-20, 29-27
-Kress led the Rams with 10 kills and a .296 hitting percentage. Sophomore Logan Dontell followed her up with eight kills and a .250 hitting percentage.
-Junior Alexis Leddy notched 17 digs to lead the squad followed by sophomore Caitlin Crespo with 10.
-Cassandra Hickman recorded six kills and five total blocks (one solo and four assists).
-Jefferson kept it close in the beginning of the first two sets with American International before the Yellow Jackets pulled away in both.
-Trailing the entire third set, Jefferson tied it up at American International's match point, 25-25. Though the Rams never took the lead, the two squads were tied at 26-all and 27-all.

JEFFERSON DEF. MERRIMACK, 25-14, 25-22, 25-15
-Senior Courtney Wensel led the Rams with 11 kills in the sweep.
-Dontell notched eight kills with a .467 hitting percentage.
-Junior Mariah Cadzow recorded seven kills.
-The Rams had 10 service aces in the win (three from Hickman, two from each Cadzow, Dontell and Leddy and one from senior Alexandra Harrington).
-Jefferson hit .353 in set one and .395 in set three to help fuel the sweep.
-The Rams never trailed in either the first or second sets.
-With the score tied 9-9 in the third, Jefferson pulled away with a eight-point run to go up 17-9.
