NEWARK, Del. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) volleyball team (6-5, 2-0 CACC) swept the Wilmington Wildcats (7-7, 1-1 CACC) on the road Tuesday evening from the WU Athletics Complex by a final of 25-16, 25-20, 25-19 to move to 2-0 in conference play. With 16 digs on the night, senior Courtney Wensel became the program's all-time digs leader.
-Wensel notched 16 digs in the victory to bring her career total to 1374, surpassing Cassandra Peck (2004-07) for the Rams' top spot on the digs leaderboard
-Wensel also recorded 13 kills on the evening with just three errors for a .400 hitting percentage
-Sophomore Abigail Kress turned in a team-high and career-high 16 kills in the win with just two errors for a .412 hitting percentage
-Junior Alexis Leddy totaled a match-high 20 digs
-Senior Alexandra Harrington grabbed 41 assists to bring her to 3160 total assists, which she remains solely in second place on the team's all-time leaderboard
-Jefferson hit .147 in the first set, .316 in the second and .220 in the third
-First: Jefferson started the match with a 14-1 run. Wilmington fought back as the Rams led 19-14 but Jefferson was easily able to secure the set, 25-16.
-Second: The two squads played a tight second set, only separated by a few points until the Rams closed it on a four-point run, 25-20.
-Third: Wilmington jumped out to a 13-2 lead in the third before the Rams won 13 of the next 14 to take a 15-14 advantage. Another six-point stretch gave Jefferson a 21-15 lead before they won 25-19.
Jefferson Volleyball now visits Holy Family on Friday at 6 p.m.
