PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) volleyball team (7-5, 3-0 CACC) defeated the Holy Family Tigers (8-5, 2-1 CACC) on Friday night from Holy Family's Campus Center in Philadelphia by a final of 25-22, 15-25, 12-25, 25-22, 15-13. Trailing 2-1 in the match, Jefferson won the fourth and fifth sets for the comeback victory.
- The win keeps the Rams unbeaten in conference play.
-This was the first five-set match for the Rams in 25 matches. The last time was Oct. 14, 2-17 at Post.
-Senior Courtney Wensel led the Rams with 14 kills followed by sophomore Abigail Kress with 11. Sophomores Logan Dontell and Cassandra Hickman both notched seven kills in the win.
-Wensel led the squad with 22 digs followed by junior Alexis Leddy (19) and senior Alexandra Harrington (13).
-Harrington also recorded 43 assists.
-Sophomore Caitlin Crespo had three service aces while Leddy had two and Harrington and Wensel each had one.
-Dontell had three solo blocks and three block assists.
-The Rams hit .189, .026 and -0.111 in the first three sets before hitting .323 and .333 in the fourth and fifth to win the match
-Trailing in the match 2-1, the Rams found themselves down, 15-11, in the fourth set. Jefferson managed to tie it up 17-17 before finally taking the lead 22-21 to even the match 2-2.
-In the fifth, the Rams went up 6-2 early. Holy Family got back within striking distance, 12-10, but Jefferson pulled away for the win.
Jefferson Volleyball now hosts a tri-match from the Gallagher Center tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 15. The Rams play Bloomfield at noon before NYIT at 4 p.m. Bloomfield and NYIT will square up at 2 p.m.
