PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) volleyball team (11-6, 6-0 CACC) split a doubleheader from the Gallagher Center on Saturday afternoon. The Rams defeated conference foe Dominican, 25-12, 25-17, 23-25, 25-19, in the first match before falling to nonconference opponent Shepherd, 25-23, 18-25, 25-20, 25-21, in the second match.
The Rams extended their winning streak to seven with the victory over Dominican before it was broken with the loss to Shepherd.
JEFFERSON DEF. DOMINICAN, 25-12, 25-17, 23-25, 25-19
-Sophomore Logan Dontell recorded a match-high 11 kills, .476 hitting percentage and four block assists
-Junior Amber Johnson notched nine kills while sophomore Abigail Kress had seven and senior Courtney Wensel had six
-Freshman Molly Hand had 21 assists while senior Alexandra Harrington had 19
-Sophomore Caitlin Crespo owned a match-high 18 digs
-Junior Mariah Cadzow turned in a match-high four service aces
-As a team, the Rams hit .290 in the first set, .275 in the second, .050 in the third and .189 in the fourth
SHEPHERD DEF. JEFFERSON, 25-23, 18-25, 25-20, 25-21
-Wensel had a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs; her seventh double-double of 2018
-Kress (14), sophomore Cassandra Hickman (12) and Wensel (12) each notched double-digit kills in the loss.
-Hickman hit .308 while Kress hit .294. Dontell recorded eight kills with a .261 hitting percentage.
-Harrington had 48 assists
-Johnson had three block assists while Dontell had two as well as a solo block
Jefferson Volleyball returns to action on the road Tuesday, Sept. 25 in a conference matchup at Georgian Court at 6:30 p.m.
