PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) volleyball team (15-7, 10-1 CACC) outlasted the Post Eagles (9-12, 6-4 CACC) in a five-set conference thriller on Homecoming Saturday from the Gallagher Center by a final of 19-25, 25-19, 25-10, 17-25, 15-5.
-Sophomore Abigail Kress led the match with 19 kills and a .386 hitting percentage, committing just two errors on her 44 attacks
-Junior Mariah Cadzow finished 12 kills while also notching 13 digs
-Senior Courtney Wensel recorded 10 kills and notched 14 digs. Wensel now has 1486 career kills; 115 from tying the program recorded with 10 regular-season matches remaining
-Sophomore Logan Dontell finished with nine kills
-Senior Alexandra Harrington recorded 49 assists
-Junior Alexis Leddy led all players with 32 digs
-Five Rams finished with double-digit digs: Leddy (32), Harrington (14), Wensel (14), Cadzow (13), sophomore Caitlin Crespo (11)
-The Rams won sets two, three and five on Saturday.
-Set Two: After gaining the lead at 3-2, the Rams never lost it again in the second set though it remained close. Jefferson could not place much distance between them and the Eagles, going up by as many as five before a Post timeout, 21-16. Out of the timeout, Jefferson won three points to get to set point.
-Set Three: Jefferson went up 8-1 in the third set and pushed it to 19-5 before winning big, 25-10.
-Set Five: Jefferson dominated in the fifth set to take the match, 3-2. Jefferson yielded only three kills to Post while committing two attack errors.
Jefferson Volleyball returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at home against Goldey-Beacom at 6 p.m. from the Gallagher Center.
