PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) volleyball team (16-7, 11-1 CACC) defeated the Goldey-Beacom Lightning (4-17, 2-10 CACC) on Tuesday evening from the Gallagher Center in a conference matchup, 25-11, 25-18, 21-25, 25-11.
-Senior Courtney Wensel led the Rams with 10 kills.
-Junior Mariah Cadzow notched eight kills with a .280 hitting percentage while getting two service aces and 10 digs.
-Sophomores Logan Dontell and Abigail Kress each recorded seven and six kills on the night.
-Senior Alexandra Harrington had 26 assists on the night with five digs, four service aces and three kills.
-Junior Alexis Leddy notched a team-high 3 digs.
-The Rams hit 11 service aces in the win.
-First Set: Jefferson held a 13-8 advantage before stretching it to 19-8 with a six-point run. From there, the Rams won six of the next nine to take the set, 25-11.
-Second Set: Trailing 9-8 in the second, Jefferson won six-straight points to go up 14-9. Goldey-Beacom kept it close, getting within three at 16-13 before the Rams grabbed an eight-point edge at 23-15 before winning, 25-18.
-Third Set: After gaining an 8-7 lead on four-straight points, Goldey-Beacom then regained the lead and never trailed again before winning the third. Jefferson got within one at 22-21 but the Lightning pulled away, 25-21.
-Fourth Set: Jefferson stormed out in the fourth, going up 15-7. The Rams won the last 11 of 15 points to take the set, 25-11, and the match, 25-11, 25-18, 21-25, 25-11.
Jefferson Volleyball returns to action on Saturday in Rutherford, N.J. with a doubleheader against Felician (11 a.m.) and Lincoln (1 p.m.).
