PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) volleyball team (21-8, 14-2 CACC) defeated the Chestnut Hill Griffins (8-17, 5-10 CACC) on the road from CHC's Sorgenti Arena in Philadelphia, Pa. by a three-set final of 25-17, 25-19, 25-11.
-Senior Courtney Wensel led the match with 10 kills on the night while adding seven digs.
-Junior Amber Johnson and sophomore Abigail Kress each finished with eight kills.
-Kress added 10 digs and three blocks.
-Cassandra Hickman notched five kills on the night as sophomore Logan Dontell grabbed four.
-Senior Alexandra Harrington recorded a match-high 26 assists and 12 digs.
-In addition to Harrington (12) and Kress (10), Wensel, junior Alexis Leddy, sophomore Caitlin Crespo and junior Mariah Cadzow each grabbed seven.
-First Set: Jefferson led comfortable 17-9 in the first. A three point Chestnut Hill stretch was followed by four points by Jefferson, 21-12. Chestnut Hill made a late challenge before the Rams won, 25-17. The Griffins again made a late push, winning 12 of the final 20 points before Jefferson reached 25-19.
-Second Set: In similar fashion, Jefferson jumped out to a 17-7 edge in the second.
-Third Set: Jefferson led 11-8 before the Rams won 14 of the final 17 points with Chestnut Hill's three points coming on Jefferson attack and service errors. Cadzow ended the match with a service ace as Jefferson won the set, 25-11, and the match, 25-17, 25-19, 25-11.
Jefferson Volleyball now hosts Georgian Court on Saturday, Oct. 27 from the Gallagher Center at noon.
