PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) volleyball team (22-9, 15-3 CACC) topped the Wilmington Wildcats (18-13, 12-6 CACC) in its penultimate conference match of the fall in four sets on Halloween night, 25-22, 25-18, 22-25, 25-23.
-Sophomore Logan Dontell, sophomore Abigail Kress and senior Courtney Wensel all tied for a match-high 13 kills.
-Wensel added a team-high 19 digs for a double-double, her 10th of the season.
-Dontell tied for a match-high .333 hitting-percentage with Wilmington's Jill Braunsberg.
-In addition to Wensel (19), senior Alexandra Harrington (18), junior Alexis Leddy (17), sophomore Caitlin Crespo (14) and sophomore Meghan Patterson (13) each finished with double-digit kills.
-Harrington recorded 46 assists in the win.
-The Rams notched 10 service aces: Crespo (4), Leddy (3), Dontell (2), Wensel (1).
-First Set: The first set was incredibly tight as neither team led by more than four. Jefferson broke a 17-17 tie in the midst of a five-point run and eventually won, 25-22.
-Second Set: Jefferson led by as many as seven at 17-10 and closed out the set by taking seven of the final 10 points, 25-18.
-Third Set: Wilmington jumped out to a 9-3 advantage in the third. Jefferson battled back by grabbing 10 of 12 points in the middle of the set to eventually tie it up 22-22 before the Wildcats won, 25-22.
-Fourth Set: Wilmington took a quick 4-1 lead before Jefferson tied it up 7-7 and then lead 10-7. Neither team led by more than two until the Rams went up 23-20. Wilmington won the next three to even the score before a bad Wilmington set and a kill by Wensel sealed the set, 25-23, and the match, 25-22, 25-18, 22-25, 25-23.
The Rams now close the regular season at Nyack on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m. before determining final seeding for the CACC Tournament which starts Tuesday, Nov. 6 with the conference quarterfinals.
