PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Philadelphia University Sarah Simonetti and Christina Wetzel were named to the 2011 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Cross Country Team Tuesday. The seven-runner team was voted on by the 28 Philadelphia metropolitan area sports information offices.

Simonetti, a health sciences major, made her second trip to the NCAA Division II Women's Cross Country championship meet, finishing 71st with a 6K time of 23 minutes, 53.8 seconds. She garnered All-Region honors for the third time in her career after placing third in the NCAA Division II East Region championship. Simonetti set the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) 5K record (18:43.21) on her way to her second consecutive CACC individual championship and second CACC runner of the year award.

Wetzel, an architecture major, was named to the all-East Region team after placing ninth at the East Regional meet. Her 11th-place finish earned Wetzel a spot on the All-CACC team for the first time.

Simonetti and Wetzel both helped the Lady Rams win their fourth consecutive CACC team championship. Philadelphia placed third at the NCAA Division II East Region championship.

To be nominated for the Academic All-Area team, the student-athlete must be at least a sophomore and have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30.
