Women's cross country takes second at The Osprey Open

POMONA, N.J. – The Philadelphia University women's cross country team placed three runners inside the top-15 to take second overall at The Osprey Open, hosted by Stockton University Saturday afternoon.

Philadelphia had a team score of 70 points in the 20-team race. The Rams were 36 points behind team champion and host Stockton University, and 58 points ahead of three-place finisher Clarion.

For the third straight week, Stephanie Watson (Newport, Vt./North Country Union) was Philadelphia's fastest runner as she completed Saturday's course in a career-best 6-kilometer time 23 minutes, 36.9 seconds. Watson took seventh overall in the 190-runner field.

Meghan Horan (Honey Brook, Pa./Twin Valley) and Jessica Thies (Mohrsville, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) completed the top-15 with finishes of 14th and 15th, respectively. Horan posted a time of 24.27.1, while Thies ran the race in 24.32.9.

Victoria Frisbie (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) ran the race in 24:40.1 to claim the 18th position. The final scoring position went to Maddie Conway (Glen Mills, Pa./Penncrest), who crossed the finish line in 24:56.4 to end up in 21st.

Erin Raup (Danville, Pa./Danville) was nearly Philadelphia's final scoring runner as she posted the 24th-place time of 25:03.2. Kaitlyn Beckham (Gettysburg, Pa./Fairfield Area) had the 48th-place time of 26:11.7.

Nicole Stough (York, Pa./West York) and Naomi Scharf (Felton, Pa./Red Lion) finished 1.2 seconds apart in a battle for 51st. Stough won the race for 51st with a time of 26:20.5, forcing Scharf and her 26:21.7 to settle for 52nd.

Monroe College's Susan Ejore was the first finisher with the winning time of 21:37.7.

Philadelphia's next race is the Paul Short Run on Saturday, Oc.t 1 at Lehigh University.
