Philadelphia, PA- PhilaU freshman attack Emily Ray notched four goals in to help the Philadelphia University women's lacrosse team (3-3, 3-0 CACC) to a 14-11 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win over visiting Chestnut Hill College (3-4, 2-2 CACC) on a blustery Monday afternoon at Ravenhill Field.
PhilaU jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first half, but CHC responded with a hat trick of their own including leading scorer Nicole Covella's first of the day. Covella led her squad with four scores total. The teams would trade goals until PhilaU junior midfielder Kalin Hodel's goal with 35 seconds in the half gave the Rams a 7-6 edge going into halftime (and the eventual game-winner). Hodel finished with two goals on the day.
In the second half, the Rams ticked off four unanswered goals to start, including one from junior attacker/midfielder Taylor Peltzer, who finished work with two goals and two assists to give PhilaU a 10-6 lead. However, CHC came back with three to get the score within two (11-9), but PhilaU would stay ahead for the remainder as Ray scored the team's final tick at 1:18 to make the final 14-11.
In goal, PhilaU rookie keeper Cory Lombardo got the win with six saves in 60 minutes of work. CHC's Jenn Delahanty had nine saves in a complete game for the Griffins.
PhilaU travels to Georgian Court University on Wednesday (3/30) for a 3:30 p.m. CACC contest next.
