SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Philadelphia University women's tennis team earned a 5-0 victory over host Shippensburg in a rain-shortened non-conference match on Sunday.
The Lady Rams improve to 7-5 overall, while the Raiders are 0-1.
Philadelphia jumped out to a 3-0 lead by claiming victory in all three doubles matches. The No. 1 team of Isabella Espinosa and Olivia Amato and the No. 2 tandem of Sayre Limburg and Elizabeth Verbits won their respective matches 8-0. Sylvia Bennicelli and Alyssa Tullar took the No. 3 match, 8-2.
Espinosa was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Brittnee Buckley, 6-1, 6-2. Limburg clinched the match for Philadelphia by taking out Katie Shearer, 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 2 match.
The Lady Rams were leading all of the remaining singles matches when the victory was clinched and the rain took over.
Philadelphia returns to action with a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match at the University of the Sciences on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 4 p.m.
