Women's tennis top West Chester, 5-2, for fourth straight win

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Philadelphia University women's tennis team earned its fourth victory in a row after knocking off host West Chester, 5-2, in a non-conference match Thursday afternoon on the South Campus Courts.

Philadelphia improves to 8-3 overall, while West Chester falls to 1-1.

The Rams earned two points in doubles play with wins by the No. 2 team of junior Olivia Amato (Hartford, Conn./Cheshire) and freshman Naia Bengoa (Caracas, Venezuela/San Ignacio de Loyola) and the No. 3 tandem of freshman Anna Slomowitz (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) and senior Elizabeth Verbits (Salisbury, Md./James M. Bennett).

Bengoa earned her second win of the day as she defeated Nicole Fahringer in No. 2 singles action, 6-1, 6-0. Bengoa has won her last four singles matches.

Freshman Emily Chung (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa) also extended her singles winning streak to six with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Abriana Nolan at No. 3 singles.

Slomowitz added the Rams' fifth point by defeating Nicole Nardi 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 5 flight. She has now won five straight singles matches.

When play was stopped due to darkness, senior Isabella Espinosa (Quito, Ecuador/Colegio Americano de Quito) was winning her No. 1 singles match 7-5, 4-4 and Amato was leading at No. 4 singles 7-5, 3-1.

Philadelphia heads to Caldwell for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match on Sunday, Oct. 6 at noon.
