Women's tennis sweeps Molloy, 9-0, for second straight win

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's tennis team earned a 9-0 victory over visiting Molloy in its first home match of the season on Saturday afternoon.

The Rams improve to 2-0, while the Lions fall to 0-2.

For the second straight match, Philadelphia got out to a 3-0 lead by sweeping the doubles matches.

Senior Sayre Limburg  (New London, N.H./Proctor Academy) and freshman Anna Slomowitz (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) earned the Rams' first point of the day with an 8-1 win in the No. 3 match over Megan Lawless and Emily Rose. The No. 1 team of freshman Emily Chung (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa) and senior Isabella Espinosa (Quito, Ecuador/Colegio Americano de Quito) and the No. 2 tandem of junior Olivia Amato (Hartford, Conn./Cheshire) and freshman Naia Bengoa (Caracas, Venezuela/San Ignacio de Loyola) were both 8-3 winners.

Junior Magill Kurts (Burlington, N.J./Burlington City) kicked off singles play by defeating Ryan Quick, 6-0, 6-0, in the No. 6 flight. Limburg earned the match-clinching point as she took the No. 5 match against Lawless 6-2, 6-0.

Espinosa knocked off Stephanie Rances, 6-3, 6-2, in a battle of No. 1 singles players. Bengoa earned a 6-4, 6-1 win against Nikki Gloria. In No. 4 action, Amato fended off Gabrielle DiCroce, 7-5, 6-2. Chung was a 6-1, 6-3 winner against Tatiana Rajaona in the No. 3 match.

Philadelphia is back in action on Sunday, Sept. 8 with a home match against NYIT at noon.
