EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – The Philadelphia University women's tennis picked up its second victory of the season with a 9-0 sweep of host Molloy Friday afternoon at Eisenhower Park.
After starting the season with a win at No. 2 doubles, the team of senior Olivia Amato (Hartford, Conn./Cheshire) and junior Julia Arruda (Valinhos, Brazil/Anglo Coc Valinhos) moved up to No. 1 and knocked off the tandem of Tatiana Rajaona and Danielle Bloecker 8-4.
The Rams' (2-0) No. 2 team of sophomore Emily Chung (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa) and Anna Kudriatceva (Yekaterinburg, Russia/Grammar School No. 13) and the No. 3 duo of senior Sylvia Bennicelli (Lansdale, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) and Carly Ragan (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Twp.) won their respective matches 8-0.
In singles play, Kudriatceva, sophomore Anna Slomowitz (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley), and senior Magill Kurts (Burlington, N.J./Burlington City) were all 6-0, 6-0 winners.
Arruda and Amato cruised to 6-0, 6-1 wins at No. 1 and No. 4 singles, respectively.
Junior Jala Hamada (Giza, Egypt/Dar El-Tarbia, IGCSE) picked up Philadelphia's final point with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Molloy's (0-2) Emily Rosen in the No. 3 flight.
Philadelphia heads to Post to open Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m.
