Box Score LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. – Liz Mower (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) became the sixth women's lacrosse player in Philadelphia University history to record 200 career points as the Rams pulled away for a 17-10 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over Chestnut Hill Thursday night at Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School.
Mower, who needed four points to be the first Ram to reach 200 points since 2012, acheieved the milestone with a goal at 16:52 of the second half to put Philadelphia (8-7, 5-2 CACC) ahead 13-8 and cap a four-point evening (three goals, one assist).
Lauren Hartman (Sewell, N.J./Our Lady of Mercy Academy)—who had six goals and three assists in the win—and Corrine Etter (Millville, N.J./Millville) each scored three times during a key 18-minute stretch where the Rams recorded nine consecutive goals to turn an eight-all tie into a 17-8 lead.
Mower's second goal of the match got Philadelphia going as it put the Rams ahead 9-8 at the 25:02 mark. Hartman converted a free-position shot at 23:22 and Allison Brian (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) scored 51 seconds later, with an assist from Mower, to push the lead to 11-8.
Etter got into the goal column for the first time on a free-position shot with 18:30 left on the clock. After Mower extended the gap to 13-8, Hartman and Etter alternated on scoring the final four goals of the surge over a 8:52 stretch.
The first half was a back-and-forth 30 minutes as the teams swapped the lead six times and were tied six times. After Hartman opened the scoring 29 into the contest, Rams and Griffins took turns scoring two goals each the rest of the half. Hartman and Mower recorded the final two goals of the first half to give Philadelphia a 7-6 halftime lead.
Brian finished with a hat trick, while Samantha Ryder (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) and Kathryn Avanzato (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) added one goal each.
Jacklyn O'Leary paced the Griffins (6-9, 3-4 CACC) with three goals and one assist, while Julia Galantich scored three times.
In goal, Philadelphia's Maria Matteis (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills) made 12 saves for the win and Chestnut Hill's Katie Joe Lang stopped eight shots. Philadelphia outshot Chestnut Hill 31-29.
Philadelphia ends the regular season with a CACC match at Nyack on Saturday, April 18 at 1 p.m.
