Women's Lacrosse Season Ends with 13-11 CACC Semifinals Loss to Chestnut Hill

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) women's lacrosse team (9-8) saw its season come to an end on Saturday afternoon with a CACC Semifinals loss to the Chestnut Hill Griffins (12-6) from Georgian Court University by a final of 13-11.

The Rams came into the conference postseason matchup on a six-game winning streak to earn the No. 2 seed while Chestnut Hill was the No. 3 seed.

Jefferson took a 3-0 lead after winning the early draw control battle. Sophomore Sarah von Lange scored the first and third goals while junior Laura Dunne tallied the second.

Chestnut Hill then scored four straight to go up 4-3 with 22:13 to play in the first half.

A three-goal run for the Rams put them back on top 6-4 with under 10 minutes remaining in the opening period before the Griffins took a 7-6 advantage before halftime after going on another three-goal stretch.

Jefferson led draw controls, 11-3, in the opening 30 minutes but committed 20 turnovers to the Griffins' nine. Across the entire game, Jefferson had 33 turnovers to Chestnut Hill's 17.

The Rams came out with new life in the second half, going on a four-goal run to go up 10-7, tied for their largest lead of the game. The two squads then exchanged goals, 11-8, to keep Jefferson's pace.

Chestnut Hill closed the game on a five-goal stretch, taking the lead with 7:16 to play before going up by two with 4:02 on the clock.

Senior Samantha Ryder led the Rams with three goals. Freshman Camryn Sullivan notched two goals and a game-high four assists. Dunne and von Lange each recorded two goals in the loss. Senior Kathryn Avanzato and sophomore Erin Eckert each tallied a goal and an assist.

Freshman Erin Campbell and Ryder each won a team-high five draw controls. Junior Katie Gallivan and Sullivan tied for team-highs of three groundballs and three caused turnovers.

Sophomore goalie Victoria Raimondi (L, 9-6) faced 29 shots, making saves on 16 of those. It came as the second-most stops in her career behind 19 as a freshman against Kutztown on April 5, 2017.

It marks the first time that the Rams did not advance to the CACC Championship Final since the 2015 season. The squad won it all in 2016 and finished runner-up in 2017.
