Men's Basketball Holds On For Home Win Against Southern Connecticut State

PHILADELPHIA - The Thomas Jefferson University men's basketball team (3-1) defeated visiting Southern Connecticut State, 92-84, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.
 
GAMEPLAY
The Owls jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the early going. A layup at the 15:45 mark upped the margin to six (12-6). The Rams followed with a 14-1 run to go ahead 20-13 with 11:24 to go in the first half. Erik Timko and Antonin Kemkeng led Jefferson with six points apiece and Darius Kinnel added a jumper. It was a five-point game (38-33) with 3:19 left. Jefferson then stretched the advantage to 15 (48-33) with a 10-point surge to end the period. Four different players contributed to the run.
 
The Rams held the Owls at bay through the early part of the second half, leading by as many as 18 (57-39). Timko's three-pointer at the 7:40 mark made the score 72-55. SCSU then embarked on a 20-6 run that got the Owls within three (78-75) with 1:57 remaining. Timko made a layup to increase the margin to five then the Owls missed a three and Kemkeng grabbed the rebound. Jefferson went a perfect 10-for-10 at the line from that point forward to hold on to the victory.
