PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University women's basketball team (18-5, 10-3 CACC) picked up its seventh straight win with a 76-66 victory over Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday.
GAMEPLAY
The Rams netted the first six points of the contest.
Haley Meinel's jumper with 4:03 on the clock gave Jefferson an eight-point advantage (12-4). The Lightning cut the deficit to six (21-15) heading into the second. Meinel hit a three followed by a layup to begin the period, upping the Rams' cushion to 11 (26-15).
Bridget Arcidiacono drilled a shot from beyond the arc to make it a 12-point margin (35-23) with 3:36 to go before the half. Goldey-Beacom got within six (39-33) just before the break but Arcidiacono sank another three in the final seconds to make the score 42-33 at intermission.
Jefferson continued to maintain its distance from the visitors throughout the third quarter, leading by at least nine and by as many as 15 (54-39). It was a 14-point difference (60-46) entering the final stanza. The Lightning opened the fourth with six points to close the gap to eight (60-52). A three-pointer at the three-minute mark got GBC within six (70-64). The Rams made a pair of shots at the line and Goldey-Beacom answered with a jumper. Both teams missed a three-point attempt and Jefferson added two more free throws to make the score 74-66 with 59 seconds to play. The Lightning were off the mark with another shot and the Rams added a layup to ice the game.
