Women's Soccer Placed 11th in United Soccer Coaches National Poll
KANSAS CITY, MO – After completing a historic run that saw them make the Sweet 16, the Thomas Jefferson University women's soccer team tallied one more record that they can add to their cap: their highest ranking in program history. The Rams ended the year in the United Soccer Coaches National Poll at #11 in the last poll, released on Tuesday evening.
Jefferson ended their season 19-1-3 on the year, ranking in the top-5 in multiple categories in school history including: wins (19 – 1st), game-winning goals (19 – 1st), assists (48 – 1st), penalty kicks attempted (6 – T-1st), games played (23 – T-1st), penalty kicks made (4 – 2nd), goals-against-average (.42 – 2nd), shutouts (14 – T-2nd), and points (158 – 3rd). They still hold high ratings in the NCAA rankings as they are in the top-10 in save percentage (.896 – 4th), won-loss-tied percentage (.891 – 4th), goals-against-average (.428 – 6th), and total assists (48 – T-7th).
The Rams also currently reached 11 wins in a row at home, tying the school record that was set in 2008-09. Jefferson still holds the longest conference unbeaten streak at 22 with the count still looking to go up next season.
This season also saw Jefferson claim their 7th CACC title in school history, an undefeated conference record for the second consecutive season, multiple CACC All-Conference players, multiple award winners, including Coach of the Year, and All-Tournament team honors. The Rams most monumental achievements came when they won their double overtime game against Bentley to win their first NCAA Tournament match in school history. This continued when they won the Second Round match, advancing to the Sweet 16. After the season, Jefferson added multiple All-East Region nominees, with two players being named to All-America teams.
Women's soccer will look to continue their success as they prepare for the offseason.
