Chaffee Named First Team All-America; Hurley Receives CRCA East Region Coach of the Year

WILMINGTON, Del. – Thomas Jefferson University women's rowing finished their season last weekend and are collecting awards for their athletic year as Ashlyn Chaffee was named to the Collegiate rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) All-America First Team while head coach Ryan Hurley secures CRCA East Region Coach of the Year honors, with his staff receiving East Region Coaching Staff of the Year.

Chaffee becomes the ninth rower to garner All-America honors, and the first to be named on the First-Team since 2023. She was a staple in the Varsity 8 boat for Jefferson, being part of a unit that placed fifth in the NCAA Championships, edging out Rollins for that spot. Chaffee was on the boat for the Rams that took first place in the Club Eight Division I/II Final at the Knecht Cup as well as the Varsity Eight – Grand Final Henry Backe Trophy at the Dad Vail Regatta.

Hurley, who joined the program January of this year, takes his first coaching award with Jefferson while being honored alongside his coaching staff Jess Crosby and Jeff Cutler. He guided the Rams to a fifth place finish at the NCAA Championships. Hurley had the team move up in the Varsity 8 and Varsity 4 boats, placing in the top-3 in multiple races for each boat. Varsity 8 won gold at the Knecht Cup and Dad Vail Regatta while Varsity 4 placed second in the NCAA Championships, the school's first silver finish in program history.
