Box Score Kutztown University righthander Philip Rummel
(Exeter, Pa./West-Mont Christian) improved his record to 3-1 by
holding Philadelphia University to one run on four hits in seven
innings, while striking out 10 Rams as the Golden Bears
improved to 8-10 in victory. Philadelphia falls to 1-10
on the 2008 season with the 10-1 defeat.
Freshman righthander Victor Quint (Pittsfield,
Maine/Maine Central Institute) took the loss for the Rams, dropping
to 0-2 in his first season. Quint struck out four and walked
four in six innings of work, yielding two runs (one earned) on
three Golden Bear hits.
Philadelphia University hung close throughout the
first seven innings of today's game, trailing 2-1 after six and 3-1
after seven innings. However, Kutztown broke open a
close contest in the top of the eighth, scoring seven runs on six
hits and two costly Ram errors in the frame.
Philadelphia University committed four miscues on the day, and
the Golden Bears took advantage as evidenced by their 10 runs in
the game versus just nine hits.
The Rams' only offense came in the third inning when
Zach Mentzer (Gettysburg, Pa. /Delone Catholic),
Tyler Mentzer (Gettysburg, Pa. /Delone Catholic)
and Mike Anderson (Waldwick, N.J./Waldwick) all
singled to string together the only multi-hit inning and the lone
run of the afternoon for Philadelphia University.
From there, Rummel was perfect from the fourth through the
seventh, and by the time the Rams got to the Kutztown bullpen, it
had become a nine-run deficit to overcome.
Up next for the Rams is another PSAC East matchup at home, this
Wednesday, March 26 at 3:00 p.m. vs. East Stroudsburg University on
Alumni Field.
