Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 The Philadelphia University baseball team continued their
excellent form in conference play, downing Bloomfield College
10-0 and
6-3 in two
seven-inning affairs at Alumni Field this afternoon.
The wins up the Rams' overall record to 6-14 but more
importantly they move to 5-2 in the league, good for second
place in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC)
standings.
Freshman pitcher Jared Farbman (Philadelphia,
Pa./Central) struck out ten and went the distance in game one to
improve to 3-0 in his first season. He was aided by a
seven-hit, six-run bottom of the first from the Rams offense, which
batted around in the opening frame.
In the nightcap, the Rams rallied from three-down to score six
unanswered runs to take the season series two games to one versus
the Deacons.
Sophomore second baseman Tyler Mentzer
(Gettysburg, Pa. /Delone Catholic; pictured) turned in a fine day
at the plate, going 4-for-8 combined in the twinbill, including two
doubles, two runs scored, four RBI and a clutch two-out
bases-clearing triple in the bottom of the sixth in game two that
lifted the Rams to victory.
Up next for Head Coach Mark Heineman's team are
a pair of weekend CACC doubleheaders at Alumni Field; on Saturday
vs. Caldwell College and on Sunday vs. Chestnut Hill College, both
beginning at 12 noon.
