Box Score 2 The Philadelphia University baseball team won two games vs.
Chestnut Hill College at Alumni Field this afternoon. In the
opener, junior pitcher Kyle Noonan (Morristown,
N.J./Morristown; pictured in today's game) tossed his second
complete game of the week, working seven strong innings, scattering
three hits while striking out five Griffins as the Rams earned a
convincing 9-1 win.
Tyler Mentzer (Gettysburg, Pa./Delone Catholic)
was 3-for-4 including a double and a home run in the first
game. The sophomore second baseman also stole a base, scored
two runs and drove home three more as the Rams opened up a 2-0 lead
after the first inning and never looked back.
In the second contest, senior third
baseman Jason Hartley (Levittown,
Pa./Neshaminy) took over on the mound in the top of the sixth,
picking up his second win of the week and the season in one and
two-thirds innings of relief as the Rams rallied for a 13-7 victory.
Philadelphia University scored three times in bottom of the
first, but the Griffins returned the favor and then some with a
five-spot in the top of the second. The Rams plated three
more in the bottom of two as the teams appeared headed for
a slugfest. Philadelphia tacked on one more in the
bottom of the third to take a 7-5 lead, which held until the sixth
inning, in which Chestnut Hill scored two runs to tie the game at
7-7.
Then the Rams' batted around in the bottom of the sixth, scoring
six times as they took advantage of four Griffin errors in the
stanza. Tyler Mentzer continued his solid production at the
plate, going 2-for-2 with three RBI, another steal and three
runs scored.
With the wins, Philadelphia University improves to 9-15 overall
for the season and 8-3 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference
(CACC) action. The Rams are in second place in the league
standings.
These two teams meet again in a single nine-inning game on
Chestnut Hill's home field in North Wales, Pa. on Tuesday, April 22
at 7:00 p.m.
The Rams' next outing is a single nine-inning affair scheduled
this Tuesday, April 15 at Nyack College at 7:00 p.m.
