Tyler Mentzer's Grand Slam Not Enough, Rams Fall at Bloomfield

Box Score

Sophomore Tyler Mentzer (pictured) hit a grand slam in the top of the ninth inning for the Philadelphia University baseball team, but it wasn't enough as the Rams fell by a score of 7-6 on Thursday afternoon at Bloomfield College.  Head Coach Mark Heineman's team scored five times in the top of the ninth, but fell one run short in dropping to 2-13 overall on the season and 1-2 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC).

The Deacons scored two runs in three consecutive innings -- the sixth, seventh and eighth -- in building a 7-1 lead heading into the final frame, but the Rams put together their rally that fell just short.  Mentzer finished with two hits and four RBI while junior pitcher Kyle Noonan went 2 for 5 with a run and an RBI.  On the mound, Noonan allowed just five hits and two earned runs with seven strikeouts in six innings of work, suffering his third loss of the season.

Heineman and his squad will be back in action at home on Friday, April 4th, hosting Post University at Alumni Field in a single conference game.
