Box Score 2 Head Coach Mark Heineman and his Philadelphia University
baseball team swept visiting Nyack College on Saturday afternoon at
home, clinching a berth in the upcoming Central Atlantic Collegiate
Conference (CACC) Tournament. The Rams claimed a 10-1 victory in the
opener at Alumni Field before taking a 6-1 decision in the
second contest, improving to 20-19 overall on the season and 18-7
in the conference.
Junior right hander Kyle Noonan tossed a complete-game gem in
the opener for the Rams, allowing just five hits in seven innings,
striking out eight for his fourth victory of the season.
Offensively, sophomore Mike Anderson drove in a pair of runs for
Philadelphia University while junior outfielder Devin Conroy scored
three times as the Rams won for the eighth time in the past nine
games.
In the second game, Heineman's team jumped out quick, taking a
5-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Sophomore Dan
Wothers provided the big hit, connecting on a two-run single with
two outs that extended the margin. Sophomore left hander
Brian Rousseau (pictured) earned his first win of the year on the
mound, allowing just two hits and one run in six innings of work.
With the sweep, Heineman and his team remain in first place in
the CACC and can win the CACC regular-season title outright with a
sweep at Post University on Monday, May 5th, or clinch a tie for
the regular-season championship with a split against the
Eagles. With one win, the Rams would also clinch first place
in the upcoming CACC Tournament by virtue of their taking two of
three from second-place Caldwell College earlier this spring.
