PhilaU Baseball Overwhelmed 20-7 by East Stroudsburg Warriors

Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University baseball team (1-6) fell 20-7 to a strong East Stroudsburg University Warriors team (8-4) on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.  Senior outfielder Kevin Anderson (Waldwick, NJ/ Waldwick) led the Rams offensively going 2-5 with two RBIs. 

PhilaU racked up eight hits (to ESU's 24) and stranded 10 runners on base.

Rookie infielder Kevin Gibbs (Pitman, NJ/ Pitman) was a bright spot for the Rams, as he led off with a solo homer in the second inning for PhilaU .  

PhilaU freshman hurler Russell Trojan (Springfield, PA/ Cardinal O'Hara) took the loss as he went 5.2 innings, allowing 15 hits and 11 runs.  ESU ace Jeremy Gigliotti got the win on the mound. 

In the second inning, PhilaU's Anderson doubled down the left field line and scored both junior outfielder Kevin McGovern (Philadelphia, PA/ Archbishop Ryan) and senior infielder Joe DiMezza (North Wales, PA/ Lansdale Catholic) to make it 3-2 PhilaU.

The Warriors tied it up 3-3 in the top of the third inning with a double by John Pisker to score Jason Kelmer, who reached on a triple to the center field fence.  ESU moved ahead 4-3 on two hits in the top of the fourth.

ESU added another two in the fifth, but PhilaU bounced back in the bottom of the fifth with four runs on three hits, including RBI singles from Anderson and DiMezza to take a 7-6 lead.

A 10 run, seven-hit sixth inning for ESU opened up the game to make it 16-7.  After four runs came in for ESU, sophomore pitcher Dan Hennigan (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown) came in relief but gave up eight runs overall as the home squad trailed 18-7.

PhilaU junior hurler Jared Farbman (Philadelphia, PA/ Central) entered in the seventh for the Rams, and freshman pitcher Trevor Dority (Pasadena, CA/ San Marino) went the final inning as ESU added two more runs in the ninth to close it out 20-7. 

The Rams rest up until Saturday (3/20) when they host Caldwell College in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader, starting at noon.
