Box Score North Wales, PA- A five-run third inning would
tip the scales in favor of the Philadelphia University Rams (11-19,
8-9 CACC) in a 6-3 conference win over the Chestnut Hill Griffins
(15-19, 11-7 CACC) on Tuesday evening at Hostelley Field.
The Rams were powered by a two-run homer from senior shortstop
Tyler Mentzer (Gettysburg, PA/ Delone Catholic),
who went 1-4 with two RBIs on the day.
PhilaU added their first run of the game in the opening inning
on a single by junior infielder Anthony
DiFrancesco (Landenberg, PA/ Salesianum). The
visitors then put the Griffins away in the third, as Mentzer scored
two, and the Rams crossed the plate three more times on two walks
and a wild pitch.
CHC scored an unearned run in the second inning and added two
more the board in the seventh and ninth innings
respectively. The Griffin bullpen went through seven pitchers
as Rudy Behrens went 2.1 innings and took the loss.
PhilaU freshman pitcher Jeff Bohus (Cherry
Hill, NJ/ Cherry Hill East) earned the win in seven innings,
allowing just one earned run and striking out five. Sophomore
hurler Alejandro Martinez (Mexico City, MX/
Cumbres Institute) came in for two innings, allowing one earned
run.
The Rams return to action on the road on Thursday (4/29) at the
University of the Sciences for a single game at 4:00 p.m.
