Box Score 2 Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University baseball team (2-16, 1-5 CACC) was swept 7-5 and 5-3 by the Dominican College Chargers (10-6, 4-0 CACC) on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
In the first game, PhilaU RBI's came from senior short-stop Anthony DiFrancesco (2) and senior utility Matt Minakowski (2). The Rams took an early 2-1 lead in the first inning on a Minakowski two-RBI single, followed by an ensuing DC error that put him on third-base. Yet, the Chargers tacked on five more runs through the sixth inning to take a 7-2 lead. In the bottom of the sixth, PhilaU tacked on another run, this one unearned. The Rams rallied in the ninth with a DiFrancesco two-run double, but that would do it as PhilaU fell 7-5. PhilaU senior pitcher Russell Trojan took the loss and goes to 0-2 on the year, while DC's Justin Moore got the win and improved to 3-0.
In game two, the Rams were down 3-0 until the third inning, when sophomore second baseman Kevin Giambri hit a sacrifice fly to score DiFrancesco, who had reached on a double. The Chargers scored two more in the fourth and fifth to go up 5-1, but the Rams scored two more in the seventh on two DC errors for eventual final score of 5-3. Losing PhilaU senior pitcher Jared Farbman went to 0-2 on the year, while DC's Dustin Javins improved to 3-1.
Next up for PhilaU will be a doubleheader at the University of the Sciences on Sunday (4/3) at noon.
