Box Score Wilmington, DE- Philadelphia University baseball (4-29, 2-15 CACC) held the Wildcats of #1 Wilmington University (32-6, 15-1 CACC) to a 1-1 tie until a two run homer from WU brought them to a 3-1 loss. PhilaU produced a homer of their own from the bat of sophomore first baseman Kevin Gibbs in the fourth.
Wilmington was the first to strike in the CACC game with a sac fly to right field from Godwin that scored Umba from third. The Rams would set themselves up for success later in the third. Freshman catcher TJ Burgmann got on with a single and was then advanced to third off a two base hit from senior shortstop Anthony DiFrancesco. Infield playing from WU would earn the next two outs stranding the PhilaU runners.
The score was tied up in the opening appearance at bat by PhilaU in the fourth. Gibbs sent a shot over the fence to tie the game, 1-1. Another double by DiFrancesco in the fifth followed by a single from freshman outfielder Rick Reigner put more Rams in scoring positions, but work on the mound by WU would again leave runners left on base.
WU closed the game with a two run home run from Godwin. The final score of the game was 3-1.
Senior pitcher Kevin McGovern played all eight innings of the game.
