Philadelphia, PA – The Philadelphia University baseball team (4-19, 2-6 CACC) led off a double header with a 4-3 victory over Lock Haven University (16-13, 6-6 PSAC), while closing with a 7-1 loss. Senior shortstop Anthony DiFrancesco and sophomore catcher Kevin Gibbs each nabbed homeruns in the opening contest for PhilaU.
In game one, the Rams were the first to get on the board with a homer off Gibbs but soon found themselves down after two RBIs were driven in by LH. Sophomore pitcher Jeffrey Bohus tied the game in the third inning at 2-2 by driving in freshman center fielder Rick Reigner. The final push forward for the Rams came later in the fifth off a single swing from DiFrancesco with a two-run homer, bringing in sophomore catcher Richard Lair. The Rams finished on top, 4-3.
Game two would see only one Ram cross the plate. Sophomore outfielder Jordan Force doubled to centerfield late in the fifth and was later driven in by a single from junior utility Joe Thayres. PhilaU fell in the match, 7-1.
Sophomore hurler Don Bradley takes the win for PhilaU in game one with Kevin McGovern claiming the save. Game two's loss goes to sophomore pitcher Mike Ross.
More double header action is on the way as PhilaU baseball prepares to host Concordia College Saturday (4/9) beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Alumni Field.
