Box Score 2 PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Philadelphia University baseball team was defeated in a pair of non-conference home contest at Alumni Field on Saturday. Bloomsburg defeated the Rams in the first game, 4-2. #19/22 Franklin Pierce took the nightcap from Philadelphia, 20-1.
After falling behind 3-0 in the second against Bloomsburg, Philadelphia (3-8) fought back with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Center fielder Rick Reigner provided the run in the fourth with a single to right field that plated designated hitter Evan High. Catcher TJ Burgmann laid down a squeeze bunt in the fifth to being in shortstop Hunter Greenwood from third.
Reigner and Burgmann each had two hits for the Rams. Bloomsburg's Brad Smith and Josh Schroeder both recorded a pair of hits. The Huskies outhit the Rams, 8-6.
Bryan Morris earned the win for Bloomsburg (6-4). Morris went five innings, allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits, and struck out five. Cody Heane recorded the save with two scoreless innings of relief. Jeff Bohus took the loss, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits and fanning six.
Right fielder Ryan Shellock provided the offense for the Rams against the Ravens (6-2) with a RBI groundout in the seventh inning to plate pinch hitter Joe Tharyes.
Left fielder Ken McCormick, designated hitter C.J. Wallowitch, catcher Stephen Uhlak, third baseman Kyle DeGennaro and Reigner each had one hit for Philadelphia.
Center fielder James Roche went 3-for-3 for Franklin Pierce with two solo home runs and a double. Third baseman Anthony Peguero had four RBI, three coming on a home run to right field.
Ryan Leach was the winning pitcher after tossing five shutout innings and striking out five. Paul Goldman took the loss. He fanned one batter in 4.1 innings of work.
Philadelphia heads to Florida for its spring break trip which gets underway Monday, March 12 against Mercy College in Fort Pierce at 3 p.m.
