Rams' winning streak ends with 4-0 loss to Wilmington

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University's five-game winning streak ended on Wednesday with a 4-0 loss to No. 23 Wilmington (Del.) in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game on Alumni Field.

Junior left fielder Shane Yoshiyama (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School) led the Rams' offense (8-14-1, 3-1 CACC) with two of the team's five hits. Sophomore shortstop Hunter Greenwood (Salisbury, Md./James M. Bennett), junior center fielder Rick Reigner (Havertown, Pa./Monsignor Bonner), and junior catcher TJ Burgmann (Philadelphia, Pa./La Salle College HS) had a single each.

Joe Marciano paced the Wildcats (18-9, 6-1 CACC) as he recorded a RBI triple in the second and a run-producing singles in the fourth. Matt Lopes went 1-for-3 and had a sacrifice fly in the third. In the sixth, Frank Samluk tacked on a sacrifice fly.

On the mound, Ray Gambone earned the victory as he scattered five hits and struck out eight in a complete-game effort. Freshman starter Cory Dean (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) allowed three runs on six hits, while fanning two, in five innings of work.

The Rams return to action against conference opponent USciences on Thursday, March 28 at 3:30 p.m. on Alumni Field. The contest is also the opening round match-up for the Bill Giles Tournament.
