Baseball swept by Dominican (N.Y.), 7-6 and 7-3

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University baseball team was swept by visiting Dominican (N.Y.) College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) in doubleheader, 7-6 and 7-3, Wednesday afternoon on Alumni Field. Game two was called after eight innings due to darkness.

Philadelphia is now 13-21-1 overall, 7-5 in CACC play. Dominican is now 15-11 overall and 9-2 against the conference.

Facing a 5-0 deficit, the Rams rallied to score five straight runs to tie game one at five after seven innings. Philadelphia got on the board in the fifth when junior first baseman Jordan Force (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) connected for one of his four game-one hits to plate sophomore right fielder Ken McCormick (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury). Junior second baseman John Sczepanski (Lafayette Hill, Pa./La Salle College HS) followed up with a double high off the left field fence to bring home junior catcher TJ Burgmann (Philadelphia, Pa./La Salle College HS). Force would score the third run of the inning on a balk.

In the seventh, the Rams pulled within one with an unearned run and tied the game on a single by sophomore Hunter Greenwood (Salisbury, Md./James M. Bennett).

With the game tied at six in the ninth, Tony Blake recorded a sacrifice fly to bring in the eventual game-winning run.

Philadelphia pounded out 18 hits in the contest. Along with Force, freshman third baseman Axel Rivera  (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/The Perkiomen School) had four hits.

Dominican's Oliver Christensen recorded three hits and Dylan Ebel drove in two runs.

Anthony Pastrana threw 2.2 innings of relief to in the win. He gave up three runs—one earned—on eight hits. Caleb Whiteley recorded a perfect ninth to get the save.

Freshman reliever Casey O'Donnell (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) took the loss.

The Rams jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the nightcap on a RBI fielder's choice off the bat of McCormick.

Dominican fought back with two runs in the second and one more in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead.

Philadelphia rallied in the home half of the fifth with RBI singles from junior left fielder Shane Yoshiyama (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School) and McCormick to knot the score at three.

Tyler Clark capped a 2-for-4, three-RBI game with a two-run home run of the scoreboard in right-center field in the top of the six to put the Chargers back in front, 5-3.

Dominican added single runs in the seventh and eighth.

The Rams finished the game with seven hits, two from Yoshiyama.

Blake and Christensen recorded three hits a piece for the Chargers.

After getting the save in game one, Whiteley went all eight innings to get the win. Senior reliever Russell Trojan (Springfield, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) suffered the loss.

Philadelphia travels to Felician for a CACC doubleheader on Sunday, April 14 at 1 p.m.
