Rams fall to East Stroudsburg in 10 innings, 2-1

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Philadelphia University baseball team suffered a 10-inning 2-1 setback to host East Stroudsburg in a non-conference game Tuesday afternoon on Mitterling Field.

Drew Hercik drove in the game-winning run with an infield single to deep shortstop to bring home Andy Brandstetter from third. With two outs in the inning, Brandstetter and Chris Knott drew two-out walks and moved up 90 feet on a balk.

East Stroudsburg (25-12) broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth on a two-out single by Eric Boyer.

Junior center fielder Rick Reigner (Havertown, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) got Philadelphia (17-25-1) on the board with an eighth-inning single to score sophomore shortstop Hunter Greenwood (Salisbury, Md./James M. Bennett) from second. Greenwood singled two batters earlier and got into scoring position on a wild pitch.

Junior first baseman Jordan Force (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen), senior designated hitter Jeff Bohus (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill E.), and junior third baseman Chris Pelaez (Miami, Fla./Sunset) all added singles for the Rams.

Brian Ernst and John Armbrust led the Warriors' 13-hit attack with three hits each.

Freshman pitcher Luke Floer (Brewster, N.Y./North Salem) took the loss in relief of junior starter Rob Spragis (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South). Spragis went 8.2 innings, struck out two batters, and scattered 12 hits.

Jake Ruch was the winning pitcher.

Philadelphia travels to Post for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 27 starting at noon.
