Box Score

NORRISTOWN, Pa. – The Philadelphia University baseball team has its season come to an end with a 6-4 loss to visiting Felician in the first round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament Tuesday afternoon on Latshaw-McCarthy Field.

Philadelphia—who entered the game as the fourth-seed in the tournament—ends the season with an overall record of 19-28-1, an eight-win improvement from last season. The Rams went 12-8 in conference play and made the CACC Tournament for the first time since 2008.

Fifth-seed Felician improves to 20-30 and advances to the final four double-elimination tournament that begins on Thursday, May 9. The Golden-Falcons will face number one seed Wilmington (Del.).

The Golden Falcons broke a three-all game open with three runs in the top of the ninth inning. With one out, Mike Farrell drew a walk and moved to third on a Chris Ayala base hit. Jay Collazo gave Felician a 4-3 lead with a RBI single to right field that plated Collazo. Scott DeJong padded the advantage as he delivered a two-out, two-run single to drive in Ayala and Collazo.

Philadelphia put together a rally in its final half-inning. Sophomore third baseman John Sczepanski (Lafayette Hill, Pa./La Salle College HS) and junior third baseman Chris Pelaez (Miami, Fla./Sunset) got the threat started with one-out walks. Junior left fielder Shane Yoshiyama (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School) delivered his third hit of the day, a single to left, to load the bases.

Sophomore shortstop Hunter Greenwood (Salisbury, Md./James M. Bennett) brought Sczepanski home with a long line out to left field and pull the Rams with two. Junior center fielder Rick Reigner (Havertown, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) reloaded the bases as he singled through the right side. However, the game would end one hitter later when sophomore right fielder Ken McCormick (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) flew out.

Jack Fowler allowed out hit in 1.1 scoreless innings of relief to earn the victory for Felician. Brett Hauber survived the ninth inning to record the save.

Sophomore reliever Stephen Uhlak (Ocean Gate, N.J./Central Reg.) took the loss after giving up three runs on four hits in three innings. Uhlak fanned three.

Reigner finished the game with two hits, while Greenwood, Sczepanski, McCormick, and Pelaez had one hit.

Ayala recorded three hits for the Golden Falcons. Collazo and Ralph Caccavale added two hits.

The Rams overcame a 3-1 deficit to tie the game at three thanks to a Sczepanski RBI fielder's choice in the fourth and a Pelaez sacrifice fly in the seventh.
