Box Score SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Philadelphia University men's tennis team kicked off the 2014-15 season Friday afternoon with a narrow 5-4 loss to host Le Moyne at the Skytop Tennis Courts.
The No. 3 doubles team of James Pollard (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) and Juan Velosa (Bogota, Colombia/Gimnasio Campestre San Rafael) picked up the Rams' first point of the year with an 8-4 victory over Stephane Legris and Adam Celeta. Nicolas Affolter (Freinbach, Switzerland/Kantonsschule Ausserschwz) and Celso de Vera Rehberger (Oviedo, Spain/Santa Maria del Naranco) squeaked by James Gayvert and Jason Barton, 9-8 (7-5), in the No. 1 match to give Philadelphia a 2-1 lead after doubles.
In No. 6 singles, Sean DiBlasio (Livingston, Texas/Livingston) was a 6-3, 6-4 winner against Adam Celeta. Philadelphia's final point came when de Vera Rehberger came from a set down to defeat Barton in the No. 2 match 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.
Philadelphia heads to Roberts Wesleyan for a non-conference match on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 11 a.m.
