Box Score WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Left fielder Daniel Klusman (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) recorded three hits in four at-bats for the Philadelphia University baseball team in a 16-1 loss to West Chester in a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon.
West Chester (11-7) scored seven two-out runs in the bottom of the first, including a three-run homer by Mike Gannon, to get out to a 7-0 lead. An inning later, Robert Knox, Anthony Salomone, and Bill Ford all recorded RBI hits in a four-run second to take an 11-run lead.
The Golden Rams tacked on one run in the third and two more in the fifth to push the gap to 14-0.
Philadelphia (6-9) broke the shutout in the seventh when first baseman Brooks Slotterback (Richmond, Va./Collegiate School) was plunked by a Joe Kinee pitch with the bases loaded. Klusman started the two-out rally with a second hit of the game—a single to left. Second baseman Michael Treglia (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) was walked and designated hitter Ken McCormick (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
West Chester added a single run in the seventh and eighth. David Argust scored in the seventh on a wild pitch and Dlyan Tice recorded a RBI single one inning later.
Steven Wells (Yardley, Pa./The Hun School), Treglia and McCormick had one hit each for Philadelphia. Tice led West Chester with four hits in six at-bats, while Salomone was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Ford also knocked in two runs.
Joe Gutkowski threw four shutout innings, including four strikeouts, to earn the win (2-1). He allowed four hits. Philadelphia's Sawyer Brown (Newfield, N.J./Buena Reg.) took the loss (0-1).
