CALDWELL, N.J. – The Philadelphia University baseball team was defeated twice by host Caldwell in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader, 3-1 and 6-3, Saturday afternoon at the Kiwanis Oval.

GAME ONE
The Rams (12-18, 5-9 CACC) scored the game's first run, without the benefit of a hit, in the top of the second inning. Steven Wells (Yardley, Pa./The Hun School) opened the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pickoff attempt. The Cougars' second error came on the next play as Paul Marinello booted a ball hit by Desmond Drummond (Philadelphia, Pa./GAMP) to plate Wells.

The score remained 1-0 until the home half of the sixth when Michael Bernstein singled home Ryan Rivera, who doubled and stole third to start the frame, to tie the score.

Rivera gave Caldwell (10-21, 7-9 CACC) the lead one inning later with a one-out double to left center that scored two runs.

Robert Humes threw a complete game four-hitter, including six strikeouts, to improve to 3-0. Philadelphia starter Stephen Dickerson (Columbus, Ohio/Danbury) recorded three strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work.

Ken McCormick (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury), David McTaggart (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth), John Brocious (Bellmawr, N.J./Triton), and Fernando Garza (Laredo, Texas/Alexander) each had a hit for the Rams.

GAME TWO
Caldwell needed just four batters to take a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap. Marinello singled to get it started and went to second on a groundout. Michael Bernstein doubled Marinello in for the first run. Dominick Mangarella doubled the lead with a single to left center that plated Bernstein.

Philadelphia fought back with single runs in the second and third to tie the game at two.

The Rams opened the second with a Wells walk and a Garza single. After McTaggart moved both runs up 90 feet with a sacrifice bunt, Drummond knocked in Wells with a groundout to third.

An inning later, McCormick hit a lead off single, stole second, and came around on bunt single by Hector Gonzalez (Laredo, Texas/United) and throwing error.

In the home half of the third, Caldwell got a RBI triple from Rivera and a Mangarella sacrifice fly to reclaim a two-run lead.

Each team pushed a single run across in the seventh inning. Nick Goetz (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) was responsible for the Rams' run with a base hit to right that plated Hunter Greenwood, while William Levier singled home the Cougar run.

Bernstein capped off his 2-for-3 game with an eighth inning single to right for the final run.

Gonzalez had two of Philadelphia's eight hits.

Eric Bomenblit posted five strikeouts over eight innings to earn the win.

Philadelphia heads to Millersville for a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday, April 19 at noon
