Baseball ends season with 12-4 loss to Chestnut Hill

NORRISTOWN, Pa. – The Philadelphia University baseball team ended the 2015 season with a 12-4 loss to host Chestnut Hill Tuesday night at Latshaw-McCarthy Field.

Philadelphia (12-24) got on the board first with a pair of runs in the opening inning. Hector Gonzalez (Laredo, Texas/United)—who led the Rams with two hits in four at-bats—jumped started the offense with a one-out single and advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches. John Brocious (Bellmawr, N.J./Triton) was able to cash in and bring Gonzalez home with a double into the left field corner. After loading the bases with two outs, Hunter Greenwood (Salisbury, Md./James M. Bennett) walked a five-pitch walk to force Brocious home for the second run.

In its first inning at the plate, Chestnut Hill (26-10) pushed five runs across to move in front 5-2. Joseph Monaghan tied the game at two with a two-run single to center field. Later in the inning, Brandon DiBona delivered two more runs with a one-out base hit to put the Griffins to the lead. Taylor Steen scored the fifth run on a wild pitch.

The score remained 5-2 until the fourth when the Rams pushed a run across on a two-out triple by Gonzalez that scored Mike Treglia (Danbury, Conn./Danbury), who was hit by a pitch to start the inning.

Chestnut Hill came back in the last of the fourth with three more runs to extend its lead to 8-3. Preston Koehler drove in the first run with a single, and Steen—one at bat later—knocked in two with a base hit to left.

Fernando Garza (Laredo, Texas/Alexander) scored Philadelphia's fourth run on a fifth-inning groundout off the bat of Brooks Slotterback (Richmond, Va./Collegiate School).

The Griffins added one run in the sixth and scored three more times during the eighth.

Patrick Campion and Koehler both had a 3-for-5 day at the plate. Koehler also scored three times.

Andrew Sibson struck out five over hits five innings, while allowing four runs on six hits in the win. Starter Luke Floer (Brewster, N.Y./North Salem) recorded three strikeouts in two innings for Philadelphia.
