Tennis drops tough match to Roberts Wesleyan

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University men's tennis team completed a string of three matches in four days with a 5-4 loss to Roberts Wesleyan Tuesday afternoon on the Abraham Salaman Tennis Courts.

Philadelphia (3-5) got off to a strong start, taking two of the three doubles matches.

Celso de Vera Rehberger (Oviedo, Spain/Santa Maria del Naranco) and Luis Molina Megias (Gran Canaria, Spain/Atlantic School Garoe) recorded their second straight win, dispatching of Charles Farres and Robert Beer at No. 1, 8-4. James Pollard (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) and Sean DiBlasio (Livingston, Texas/Livingston) were 8-5 winners against the No. 3 tandem of Rene Torti and Dustin Eshleman to increase their winning streak to three.

In singles action, Molina Megias and Jacobo Atri (Mexico City, Mexico/Colegio Hebreo Monte Sinai, AC) earned points for Philadelphia.

Atri improved to 6-0 at No. 4 singles as he was a straight-set winner over Jose Maria Carrillo, 6-4, 6-1. Molina Megias won a three-set battle with Beer in the No. 2 flight. After swapping 6-3 set wins, Molina Megias cruised to a 6-1 victory in the third set to earn the win.

With the match tied at four, Farres edged out de Vera Rehberger in a third-set tiebreak 6-3, 3-7, 7-6 (7-2) to win the match for the Redhawks (9-6).

Philadelphia welcomes the University of the District of Columbia to campus for a non-conference match on Friday, March 25 at noon.
